Stories of adventures that bubble and fizz out of the pages with Anna McNuff

The first time that Anna digitally entered our lives was on an emotional social media post she'd filmed of herself at the lighthouse at the end of the Te Araroa trail in New Zealand after running 1,911 miles in 148 days. 

Fast forward a couple of years, and we were meeting up with the woman herself for a potter around the Shropshire Hills and talk all things life, adventure, and, book design. 

Anna threw the rule book out of the window on what a life 'should' look like, and became a fearless advocate for people to push themselves to live life more adventurously. From running, cycling, swimming, and rollerblading, she's shown what is possible - and rather handily is a wonderful wordsmith.

Llama Drama

Now writing in chronological order of her adventures, Anna's next book was about her two-woman, 5,500-mile cycling adventure through South America with her good friend Faye. 

Keeping with the leg cover theme, we played with the idea of the two women's legs on bikes on the cover - but with the title of the book, we couldn't resist using Llamas's lovely limbs and knobbly knees for a concept.

Once Anna saw it, she knew that her own and Faye's smooth limbs would never compare. 

We again created bespoke hand-drawn maps for the interior of the book and designed a clean and simple layout of the text.

Bedtime Adventure Stories for Grown-Ups

During the pandemic, and having recently given birth to her first child, Anna started writing a series of short stories. These stories depicted the smaller everyday adventures that Anna has had, from road trips in Canada, to bivvy bag nights on the Welsh mountains and everything in between. Having commissioned Illustrator Cai Burton to create the

artwork for the cover, we hand-drew a bespoke typeface for the cover title and back cover. When laying out the interior, using small elements from Cai's illustration, we were also able to give each chapter it's own icon - setting the tone for the story to come.
